Could you have a robot friend?

Consequential Robotics

Opinions on this question have been generally divided. However, Tony Prescott, Professor of Cognitive Robotics and MiRo co-founder shares why the idea of a robot friend may not be seem so strange in the not too distant future. If you were one of the delegates at FutureFest 2018, you may have heard Tony discuss this in person, if you missed his session, you can view a clip of it here.

Developing the potential of robotics in education and healthcare

This continues to be our main goal over the next coming months and years. We’ll be sharing our progress so stayed tuned to our blog as we start to explore this possibility with MiRo.

Much of our ambition to develop MiRo for healthcare is around the mounting pressure on the NHS (the UK’s national health service) to keep costs down. The UK media have not been shy about expressing this concern and it is a subject close to the hearts of our founders and the general public in the UK. How can robots help the UK health service achieve this goal? Professor Prescott has discussed this extensively in his whitepaper Robotics in Social Care. Last week, he was interviewed by the BBC to talk about why robots can reduce the cost of social care. If you missed this live broadcast, simply, view it here and fast forward the video to 45 minutes in.

Lastly, we’re delighted to announce that we have joined forces with conference organisers AI Congress by teaming up as partners for their second conference in September. The inaugural AI Congress was hosted at the O2 in London on January 2018.

The AI Congress team recently received the trophy for the Best New Conference Launch of 2018, at the Conference Awards for creating an event that was: “meticulously planned and well-thought through.” MiRo and the team are pleased to be supporting an award-winning event!
